The Working Group VIDIT brings together an international group of scholars and developers who study textual variation in literary and historical documents. In particular, the working group addresses the challenge of using visualizations to represent textual differences and make the output of collation software more informative for a wider audience.
VIDIT emerged after a workshop in April 2025, and has been organised into two subgroups. The first is defining vocabulary for describing textual variation, in a way that would be suitable for Linked Open Data. The second group is providing a comprehensive survey of the tools that exist, and developing a set of best practices to guide anyone who wishes to develop software for textual-difference visualisation.
