Bio

Dr. Rebecca Seifried is a Geospatial Information Librarian in the Digital Scholarship Center at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. She is a co-director of the CARTography Project (2019-present).

Trained as an anthropological archaeologist, she has worked extensively throughout Greece as a survey archaeologist and GIS specialist. Her research focuses on medieval and post-medieval rural settlements in the Mani Peninsula. After earning a PhD in Anthropology from the University of Illinois at Chicago, she worked as a GIS project manager for the Center for Ancient Middle Eastern Landscapes at the Oriental Institute, University of Chicago, and held a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Individual Fellowship at the Laboratory of Geophysical Satellite Remote Sensing & Archaeo-environment, Institute for Mediterranean Studies (IMS-FORTH) in Rethymno, Greece. She joined UMass Amherst in 2019.
