Description
The CARTography Project (Cataloguing Ancient Routes and Travellers) is a new archaeological and Digital Humanities research initiative that documents and analyzes the routes that early explorers took to the Mani peninsula in southern Lakonia, Greece. The CARTography Project team is exploring these routes to better understand pre-modern travel. Specifically, we are using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software to reconstruct travelers’ journeys through the Mani peninsula over the past two thousand years, and then compare the results to our own ground-truthing and fieldwork.
