Aims and scope

Itiner-e Itiner-e aims to host the most detailed open digital dataset of roads in the entire Roman Empire. The data creation is a collaborative ongoing project edited by a scholarly community. Itiner-e allows you to view, query and download roads. Each road segment has a URI that allows it to be cited and linked by external resources. It also includes a route-finding tool to explore travel itineries and times in the ancient world.
Data
As of 2020, the database includes data from the Antonine Itinerary, the Itinerario de Barro, and the Vicarello Beaker.
Interoperability
From the project website (accessed 2020-09-01):
Through the Itiner-e gazetteer and the places associated with routes, this data resource will be linked with other Gazetteer projects such as Pleiades and the TIR-FOR Project. All the data generated will be stored in GeoJson format where all the information will be stored (id names, places within the roads, chronology, etc…)
