The international research programme of the Inscriptions grecques et latines de la Syrie (IGLS) aims to publish the corpus of Greek and Latin inscriptions of ancient Syria, i.e., of the modern Near East, within the framework of the present-day territories of the Syrian Arab Republic, the Lebanese Republic and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. Founded in 1905 and currently placed under the responsability of the research unit Hisoma (Histoire et sources des mondes antiques, Centre national de la recherche scientifique, Lyon, France), it is based both on the archives kept at the Maison de l’Orient et de la Méditerranée, a research federation hosted by Université Lumière Lyon 2, and on field missions carried out in Jordan, Lebanon and Syria, in close collaboration with the directorates of antiquities of these three countries. The IGLS volumes have been published since 1929 in Beirut by the Institut français du Proche-Orient (Ifpo) and its predecessors.
