Multisensory approaches describe projects in the digital humanities that engage users and readers with more than one sense.
While our visual and textual media allow linking and amplifying particular qualities of materials and places distant in time and space, they are also reductionist to the very experience of the world in which we are immersed. For example, archaeological instruments are implicated within a whole process of material mobilization – from field-walking, to the final stages of synthesis and articulation sensory interactions with the material environment is key.  The repeated experiences of other senses, can interweave to create an experience of place, society, and culture through a deeper use of digital ekphrasis. Description

Sound, for example, has been characterised as immediate, evocative, linking biological constants with semantics and cultural variables to an immersive experience of performance.
