Bio

Dr. Nicolas Souchon is a Research Engineer in Digital Humanities at the CNRS – UMR 5607 Ausonius (Pessac, France).

Trained as an Egyptologist, he holds a master’s degree in History and Archaeology of the Ancient Worlds and a Diplôme universitaire d'études spécialisées d'égyptologie from Lumière Lyon 2 University. He subsequently completed his PhD at the École Pratique des Hautes Études – Université Paris Sciences et Lettres under the supervision of Professor Laurent Coulon. His PhD, entitled “The decorative program of block statues between New Kingdom and the end of Libyan Period (XVI^e - VIII^e century BC)” focused on the study of the decoration of a specific group of Egyptian statues, using XML-TEI/EpiDoc encoding to cross-reference iconographic and textual data. Alongside his studies in Egyptology, he trained in the Digital Humanities, with a particular focus on XML-TEI/EpiDoc encoding and the XSLT and XQuery languages.

His research focuses on material culture in ancient Egypt, particularly Egyptian statuary, as well as on the Digital Humanities and their applications to Egyptological research.
