Paolo Monella is a lecturer in Digital Classics at the University of Palermo.
Paolo Monella is a Researcher (type A) in Latin and Digital Humanities and DH responsible for the PAGES Project (https://web.uniroma1.it/pages) at Sapienza University of Rome since 2021.


He holds a PhD in Classics (University of Palermo, 2006). He taught Latin language and literature at UCLA a visiting lecturer in 2004 and 2007/08. In 2012 he was a post-doc fellow in Digital Humanities at the Centro Interdipartimentale "Beniamino Segre" of the Accademia dei Lincei. In 2019/20 he was a visiting scholar in Digital Textual Scholarship at the Venice Centre for Digital and Public Humanities of Ca' Foscari University, where he worked on the creation of a LOD-oriented digital model (specifically an ontology) for graphematics and textual philology. Since 2018 he is the Coordinator of the Unione Accademica Nazionale (UAN) information technology support group.


He published a book on the myth of Procne and Philomela ("Procne e Filomela. Dal mito al simbolo letterario", Pàtron Editore, Bologna 2005) as well as articles on Latin literature – mostly on classical poetry – and (since 2008) on digital scholarly editions (DSEs). In 2016 he completed a multi-layered DSE of the "De nomine" by Urus Beneventanus (http://www.unipa.it/paolo.monella/ursus), and in 2020 one of "Chronicon" by Romualdus Salernitanus (http://www.unipa.it/paolo.monella/romualdus).
